Originally created for the 1878 Universal Exhibition in Paris, Les Oies Célestes is a revival of Baccarat’s historic fascination with Eastern aesthetics, particularly the ornamental ceramics of Iznik. The vase’s slender oval form is adorned with a hand-painted enamel trim in rich polychrome and gold, a meticulous process requiring exceptional precision from Baccarat’s gilders. The central motif features celestial geese - messengers between earth and sky - arriving in a symbolic Garden of Eden that blossoms upon their landing. Reimagined today in a limited edition of 12, this piece represents both a technical achievement in decorative artistry and a poetic vision rooted in Baccarat’s 19th-century heritage.
